Paris, Again

This time with my mom, and also with rain.  Lots of rain.  Luckily, after waiting in line in the drizzle for a while, the rain cleared when we made it to the top of the Eiffel Tower.  The views were great, and we hung around for quite a while enjoying the dry weather.

We took a hop on, hop off bus tour (which I cannot recommend in the rain) saw a few sights,  including Musée National de l´Orangerie, which was quite nice.  It had a good collection of Impressionist paintings, and two rooms were dedicated to Claude Monet’s Les Nymphéas  .  They were quite a sight to behold!

Also, there was a solo exhibition of Didier Paquignon’s work.  I have not seen his works before, but I really enjoyed a number of them.  There were etchings, drawings and paintings of similar subject matter.  Urban landscapes, industrial, city life from around the world, and he had an ability to capture atmosphere in his skies which was amazing to me.  Some of his work also was reminscent of Charles Sheeler’s in its angularity and composition.  The use of color was also thought provoking, as he blended multiple colors together on the surface, yet, they didn’t necessarily look too circus-like.  Reading about this exhibition (by using Babel Fish to translate the Musée National de l´Orangerie’s press release) was very interesting.  Sadly, I didn’t get a decent shot of his work, or most of Paris, for that matter.  I will include a token Eiffel Tower shot for your enjoyment.
